The first person to introduce what is known as rhetoric in Europe to China was the Italian missionary Giulio Aleni, who came to China during the Ming Dynasty and whose Chinese name was Ai Ru Lue, in his book Xixue Fan (1623), in which he translated rhetoric as 'literature'. However, the European idea of ​​rhetoric, which is to write as one speaks, did not take root in China until the call for a 'literary revolution' that began in 1917.
