Shibukawa Mitsuyori

A military commander during the Muromachi period, towards the end of the Northern and Southern Courts. Uhyoe no sa and Sakon no daifu. Son of Yoshiyuki. He became the shugo of Settsu (Hyogo Prefecture, Osaka Prefecture), Bitchu (Okayama Prefecture), and Aki (Hiroshima Prefecture), but succeeded Imagawa Ryoshun and was appointed Kyushu Tandai in 1396, also serving as the shugo of Hizen (Saga Prefecture, Nagasaki Prefecture). Because he lived in Hakata, Chikuzen, he came into conflict with the shugo Shoni clan, whose base was in the same province. In Hizen, he placed the Yoshimi clan as the shugodai, and ruled as a deputy shugo. He had particularly strong ties with the temples, shrines, and local lords of eastern Hizen, and later created the foundation for the Shibukawa clan to settle in Hizen. Furthermore, because he was based in Hakata, he had strong ties with Korea, and actively traded with his family and retainers, and in the 26th year of the Oei Invasion, he took measures to deal with it. In the same year, he handed over the Kyushu Tandai to his son Yoshitoshi, and in 1906 he went to Tokyo to take part in a lawsuit, and thereafter lived in the capital.

南北朝末・室町時代の武将。右兵衛佐,左近大夫。義行の子。摂津(兵庫県,大阪府),備中(岡山県),安芸(広島県)の守護となったが,今川了俊のあとを受けて応永3(1396)年九州探題に任命され,肥前(佐賀県,長崎県)守護も兼任。筑前博多に居住したため,同国内に本拠がある守護少弐氏と対立した。肥前には守護代として吉見氏を置き,代官支配を行った。特に東肥前の寺社,国人と関係が深く,のちに渋川氏が肥前に定着する素地をつくった。また,博多を本拠とした関係上,朝鮮との関係が深く,一族・家臣と共に活発に朝鮮と貿易を行い,同26年の応永の外寇に際しては,その善後策を講じた。同年,九州探題を子の義俊に譲り,同31年に訴訟のため上京,以後在京したという。<参考文献>川添昭二「渋川満頼の博多支配及び筑前・肥前経営」(『続荘園制と武家社会』)
