Miki Akita - Akita Sanesue
Year of death: 29th November 1660 (11th January 1660)
Year of birth: Tensho 4 (1576)
A descendant of the Tsugaru Ando (Azuma) clan from the end of the Sengoku period and the beginning of the Edo period. The founder of the Akita clan. During the Sengoku period, the Ando clan was divided into the Hiyama Ando clan and the Minato Ando clan, but when Akisue of the Hiyama Ando clan inherited the Minato Ando clan, the two clans were unified. Muneki was Akisue's second son. He took the names Fujitaro, Munenori, and Tougo. After the death of his father Akisue in September 1587, he took over as head of the family at the age of 13, but the following year, unrest spread within his domain, with Nagai Hiroharu, the lord of Taihei Castle, rebelling against him. In 1822, Toshima Michiki, a leading member of the clan, allied with the Tozawa clan of Kakunodate and challenged Minato Castle as a base (Minato Battle), but after a hard-fought battle, Toshima defeated the Toshima clan and continued to unify the territory. He repelled invasions by the Muto, Nanbu, and Tsugaru clans, and forced the Hinai Asari clan to submit, establishing a territory spanning the three counties of Akita, Hiyama, and Hinai. He also moved his castle from Hiyama (Noshiro City) to Minato (Tsuchizaka, Akita City). In 1823, when Toyotomi Hideyoshi carried out the Oshu Punishment, he was given over 52,440 koku in Hiyama and Akita counties, and was also ordered to manage over 26,240 koku of land in the Taiko Treasury (total income of over 78,600 koku). It can be said that this was a measure taken by Hideyoshi to obtain "Akita cedar and Akita gold" before the invasion of Korea. Furthermore, the role of handling Emishi affairs, which he had been in charge of since the Middle Ages, was transferred to Matsumae (Kakizaki) Yoshihiro. When Hideyoshi built Fushimi Castle and Tsuruga Castle and dispatched forces to Korea, he used the northern sea transport to send timber and troops. According to the "Akita Jonosuke-den Bukimichi" compiled in Bunroku 3 (1594), his fief was over 68,000 koku and his storehouse land was over 29,000 koku (total of over 98,500 koku), and through land surveys and other means, he transformed into a modern daimyo. However, in 1604, when the Hitachi Satake clan was transferred to Akita, he was transferred to Hitachi Shishido, and in 1605, he became Akita Jonosuke with the rank of Junior Fifth Rank and participated in both the Winter and Summer Campaigns of Osaka. In 1631 (Kan'ei 8), he was forced to live in seclusion in Ise Asakuma (Ise City) for his faults in the punishment, and died there. He excelled in waka poetry, writing, and the tea ceremony. The family was later transferred to Miharu in Oshu with a fief of 55,000 koku in 1645, and lived until the Meiji Restoration.
