A diagram showing the function and structure of a chemical process. Also called a production flow diagram. It shows the process from raw materials to the finished product by the flow of materials, the sequence of unit operations, and the layout of the equipment used. It gives an outline of the departments, operations, and equipment in the process, and a collection of diagrams is published for known processes. More technical diagrams are created that quantitatively record the performance of the equipment, the amount of materials and heat handled, etc.

化学プロセスの機能と構成を表した図。製造系統図とも呼ばれる。原料から製品に至るまでの工程を物質の流れ，単位操作の連なり，用いられる装置の配置によって示す。工程中の部門，操作，装置などの概略の概念が与えられ，既知の工程については図集などが出版される。より専門的には装置の性能，取り扱う物質や熱の量などが定量的に記入されたものが作られる。
