Freiberg

...Today, the miner's dolls and the city bell, donated by the mining company in 1968 to commemorate 1000 years of mining, are a source of entertainment for locals and tourists. Silver has been mined in the Saxony-Meissen region since the 10th century, but Freiberg became Germany's number one mining city in the 12th century after the silver mines discovered in 1168 were developed. The Freiberg Mining Law, which compiled the mining practices here, was enacted in the 14th century and became the basis for German mining law, as well as spreading throughout Europe.
