King of Poland (reigned 1697-1733). Known as the Strong King. Born as the son of Johann Georg III, Elector of Saxony in Germany, he became Elector of Saxony as Frederick Augustus I in 1694. He became King of Poland in 1697, but abdicated in 1704 after losing the Northern War. However, with the help of Russia, he was able to eliminate Swedish interference and was restored to the throne in 1709. He is considered a typical imitation of King Louis XIV of France.

ポーランド国王（在位1697年―1733年）。強力王と呼ばれる。ドイツのザクセン選帝侯ヨハン・ゲオルク３世の子として生まれ，1694年フリードリヒ・アウグスト１世としてザクセン選帝侯となる。1697年ポーランド国王となり，北方戦争に敗れ1704年退位するが，ロシアの援助でスウェーデンの干渉を排除して1709年復位。フランス国王ルイ14世の典型的な模倣者とされる。
