三十年戦争のさなか，トルステンソンLennart Torstensson(1603‐51)率いるスウェーデン軍が，ユトランド半島に侵入してこれを席巻した後，1645年にデンマーク王クリスティアン4世とデンマーク･スウェーデン国境の町ブレムセブルーBrömsebro(現，スウェーデン領)で結んだ和議。その結果スウェーデンは，デンマークがバルト海，北海の航行船舶から徴収していた〈海峡税〉を免れ，ハッランド，イェムトランド，バルト海上のゴトランド島，エーゼル島を獲得し，バルト帝国の基礎を築いた。
