Fresh (English spelling) Flesch Károly
Born October 9, 1873 in Mosson, Hungary
[Died] November 15, 1944. Lucerne, Switzerland. Hungarian-born violinist and educator. Studied under Jakob Grün in Vienna from 1886 to 1889, and studied at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1890 to 1894. He made his debut in Vienna in 1895, and was active as a soloist, while also forming a piano trio with pianist Arthur Schnabel and cellist Hugo Becker. He began as a professor at the Bucharest Conservatory from 1897 to 1902, and taught at the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Berlin Conservatory, and the Curtis Institute of Music in the United States, but moved to London in 1934 due to the rise of the Nazis. He taught at the Lucerne Conservatory in Switzerland from 1943 until his death. He is known for his two volumes of instruction books and three volumes of etudes.

Architectural term. French for "arrow," but by extension, referring to a slender pinnacle (→ spire) erected at the intersection of the nave and transept of a cathedral. They are often made of wood and have bells hanging inside. Representative examples are those of Amiens Cathedral and Notre Dame de Paris. They were important in the chapels of the Cistercian Order in the 13th century (→ Cistercian architecture). In secular architecture, the term was used from the 15th century onwards.

建築用語。フランス語で「矢」を意味するが,転じて聖堂の身廊と翼廊部の交差部に建てられる細長い小尖塔をいう (→尖塔 ) 。木で造られることが多く,中に鈴が下げられている。代表例はアミアン大聖堂とパリのノートル・ダム大聖堂のもの。 13世紀のシトー会修道会の礼拝堂では重要な意味をもつ (→シトー会建築 ) 。世俗建築では 15世紀以後に用いられる。
