This river originates from Mt. Hachimori in the central-western part of Nagano Prefecture, flows almost southwest, and empties into Ise Bay. It is 227 km long and has a drainage area of 9,100 km2 . The upper reaches form the Kiso Valley, and join the Otaki River south of Kiso Fukushima. It passes through Nezame-no-toko and Ena Gorge, and joins the Hida River, its largest tributary, in Minokamo City. It passes through the Nihon Rhine and the Nobi Plain, and joins the Nagara River and Ibi River downstream, forming a ring-shaped river at its mouth. The river downstream from Kasamatsu becomes an open-air river. In ancient times, it was called the Unuma River and the Hirono River, and flooded frequently. In the Middle Ages, it was a fishing spot for cormorant fishing, and ferries, water transportation, and raft transportation of timber were also used. There are many power plants in the river system, and it is also important as a source of industrial water for the Chukyo Industrial Area and the Aichi Water Supply. The middle reaches of the river belong to the Hida Kisogawa Quasi-National Park. →Related topicsIchinomiya [city] | Kaizu [town] | Kakamigahara | Kasamatsu [town] | Kawashima [town] | Kisogawa [town] | Kisosaki [town] | Gifu [prefecture] | Sakahogi [town] | Torii Pass (Nagano) | Nagashima [town] | Nagashima Rebellion | Nakatsugawa [city] | Nobi Ohashi Bridge | Nobi Plain | Fukuoka [town] | Fuso [town] | Mino-Mikawa Plateau | Yaotsu [town] | Yatomi [town] Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
