Japan Federation of Economic Organizations

Japanese: 経済団体連合会 - けいざいだんたいれんごうかい
Japan Federation of Economic Organizations
Founded in 1946, Keidanren is a national organization made up of industry-specific economic organizations and large corporations. Its abbreviation is Keidanren. It was one of the four business organizations, along with the Japan Federation of Employers' Associations (Nikkeiren), the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nissho), and the Japan Association of Corporate Executives. Initially, it was made up of five organizations: the Japan Industrial Council, the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (later Nissho), the Japan Council of Trade Organizations, the National Council of Financial Organizations, and the Central Association of Commerce and Industry (later the Japan Federation of Small Business Associations). In 1952, when Nissho and the Japan Federation of Small Business Associations withdrew, it was reorganized into an industry-specific organization. It established a comprehensive task force and 30 standing committees and roundtables across various fields of the economy, as well as the Space Development Promotion Council and the Defense Production Committee, which strengthened communication between industries and summarized the opinions of the business community and submitted them to the government and the Diet, playing the role of the headquarters of the business community. It also cooperated with economic organizations in other countries to resolve international issues. In May 2002, it merged with the Nikkeiren to form the Japan Business Federation.
