Wilhelmshaven - Wilhelmshaven

Japanese: ウィルヘルムスハーフェン - うぃるへるむすはーふぇん(英語表記)Wilhelmshaven
Wilhelmshaven - Wilhelmshaven

A port and industrial city in Lower Saxony in northern Germany. Population 85,300 (2000). The city spreads over low marshes on the northwest coast of Jadebusen Bay, which connects directly to the North Sea, and has the only natural harbor on Germany's North Sea coast. In addition to the traditional shipbuilding industry, chemical and office equipment industries were established after World War II. It is also Germany's largest oil import port, and a pipeline runs to the Rhine-Ruhr industrial area. It became part of Prussia in 1853, prospered with the construction of a military port, and in 1956 it became a naval base for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) again. There are many government offices and research institutes related to the ocean. There are beaches and campgrounds nearby, and it attracts vacationers in the summer.
