Neuber - Friederike Caroline Neuber

German actress. Maiden name Weissenborn. Born in Reichenbach to a lawyer's father. At the age of 19, she eloped with clerk Johann Neuber and travelled around with various troupes. In 1727, she formed a troupe in Leipzig, gaining popularity under the name Neubelin (Fame Neuber's Troupe). With the support of Gottschedt, she embarked on theatrical innovation, staging French classical plays and trying to abolish the role of the clown, but later came into conflict with Gottschedt's ideas from the perspective of theater management, and in 1741, after a guest performance in Russia, she staged a work satirizing him, losing his support. After that, she staged the premiere of a play by the unknown Lessing, but it was unsuccessful, and she disbanded her troupe in 1753. She died in obscurity in Berlin.
