A language spoken in ancient Phrygia. One of the Anatolian languages. Known from two inscriptions from different eras, the language of the inscriptions from the 8th to 5th centuries BC is called Old Phrygian, and the language of the inscriptions from several centuries after Christ is called Neo-Phrygian. It belongs to the Indo-European language family. There has been a tradition since ancient times that it is the ancestor of Armenian, but this has not been linguistically proven.
