It refers to a group of about 550 genera and 12,000 species, including brown algae belonging to the Phaeophyta division, which have xanthophyll pigments such as fucoxanthin in addition to chlorophyll a and c and produce water-soluble carbohydrates such as laminaran through photosynthesis, the Chrysophyta division, the Chrysophyta division, diatoms, raphidophytes (Chlorophyta), and the Xanthophyta (Heterokontophyta). …
