Frederick [III] - Friedrich
Elector of Saxony (1486-1525). Known as the "wise prince," he was the most powerful man in Germany under the reigns of Holy Roman Emperors Maximilian I and Charles V. During the Protestant Reformation, he protected Luther and, influenced by Melanchthon, permitted Protestantism.
