…The revolt was put down, but the peasant leaders called for Ferenc II Rákóezi (1676-1735) as their anti-Habsburg leader. Rákóezi was the son of Zríny Jllona (1643-1703), who had been the leader of the anti-Habsburg militia Kurz in Transylvania. After his mother was imprisoned in 1686, he was brought up under the protection of the imperial court in Vienna, but in 1694 he returned to his own territory and eventually became associated with anti-Habsburg aristocrats such as Miklós Bercsényi (1665-1725). …
