Priangan (English spelling)

Japanese: プリアンガン（英語表記）Priangan

The name of the highlands region centered on Bandung in West Java, Indonesia. In the 14th century, it flourished as the center of the Padjajaran Kingdom, but the kingdom was defeated in two battles (1630 and 1632) during the reign of Sultan Agung, the king of Mataram, and recognized Mataram's suzerainty. After the Tornojoyo Rebellion (1675-79), the region came under the influence of the Banten Kingdom, and from 1684 the Dutch East India Company advanced into the region, placing local lords under its control. In 1699, Arabica coffee was introduced to the region, and from that time until 1916, the inhabitants were obliged to forcibly plant and surrender coffee to the East India Company (which became the colonial government in the 19th century).

インドネシア，西ジャワのバンドンを中心とする高原地帯の通称。14世紀にはパジャジャラン王国の中心地として栄えたが，この王国はマタラム王スルタン･アグンの時代に2度の戦闘(1630,32)に敗れてマタラムの宗主権を認めた。次いでトルノジョヨの反乱(1675‐79)後，バンテン王国の勢力下に入り，1684年以後はオランダ東インド会社がこの地域に進出し，地方領主はその支配下に置かれた。1699年にアラビカ種のコーヒーが導入され，住民はそれ以降1916年にいたるまで，コーヒーの強制植付けと強制引渡しとを東インド会社(19世紀以降は植民地政庁)に対して義務づけられた。
