This temple is located in Nariai-ji, Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture. It is a special head temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect. Its mountain name is Nariai-san. The principal image is Shokanzeon Bosatsu (Shoukanzeon Bosatsu). It is the 28th Kannon temple of the Thirty-Three Western Temples. It is also called Hashidate Kannon. It is said that in 704 (Keiun 1), the temple was founded by Shin'o Shonin, who was impressed by the scenery of this place overlooking Amanohashidate, one of the Three Most Scenic Spots of Japan, at the request of Emperor Mommu. The miraculous power of this temple as a Kannon sacred site is also described in "Konjaku Monogatarishu" and "Ryojin Hisho", and it had a great influence during the Heian period. Since the Kamakura period, the temple has been completely destroyed three times by landslides, fires from war, and lightning, but was rebuilt each time. The current building was rebuilt between the Tenbun and Bunka eras (1532-1818). Temple treasures include a red glass Amida statue painted on silk by Chodensu, a list of all the fields in Tango Province by the Shogoho inscribed on paper (all of which are nationally important cultural properties), an iron bath from the Kamakura period, and a dragon facing forward that is said to have been made by Hidari Jingoro in the inner sanctuary of the main hall.
