Ezoenoki - Ezoenoki

Japanese: エゾエノキ - えぞえのき
Ezoenoki - Ezoenoki

A deciduous tall tree of the elm family (APG classification: Cannabaceae). It is similar to the Enoki tree, but the leaf edges are almost entirely sharply sawtoothed, the fruit stalk is longer, measuring 2-2.5 cm in length, and the fruit turns black when ripe. It grows in the mountainous areas of southwestern Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and is also found on Jeju Island in Korea. Its wood is soft and is used for furniture. It is also a food plant for the Japanese purple emperor, the national butterfly.
