Japanese: 馬鹿聟 - ばかむこ

A folk tale that laughs at the foolish behavior of a groom. The term "groom" does not necessarily refer to a so-called "new groom," but is a general term for a man who is married. The typical story is one in which the groom visits his bride's house and makes repeated mistakes due to differences in customs, habits, and experience, which are the subject of humour. For example, on his first visit, the groom reveals his foolish behavior at his bride's house, not knowing how to greet people, the proper way to eat, or the names of foods. The bride tries hard to help, but the groom's lack of common sense is exposed and the marriage falls through. However, on the other hand, if the bride is a supporter, all of the mistakes work to his advantage, and there are also stories in which the groom ends up demonstrating his excellent qualities, and he becomes the heir to a wealthy family.

昔話。愚かな聟の振舞いを笑う話。聟はいわゆる入聟とは限らず，結婚相手がある男の総称。聟が嫁の家に行って風俗，習慣，経験の違いから失敗をくりかえすことを笑いの対象にする話型が一般的。例えば，聟が初めての訪問で挨拶の言葉や食事の作法や食物の名を知らずに，嫁の家で愚行をさらけ出す。嫁が懸命に加勢するが，かえって聟の非常識が露見して結婚は不成立に終わる。しかし，一方で嫁が協力者である場合，失敗が全部有効に働いて，聟のすぐれた資質をあらわす結果になり，長者の跡継ぎになる話もある。
