Refers to natural and synthetic rubber in an unvulcanized state. Raw natural rubber is industrially made by coagulating latex with acetic acid, and is available in brown smoked sheets and pale yellow pale crepe, which is dried directly. Raw rubber is insoluble in water, and if soaked for a long time, it will absorb about 25% water and swell. It is soluble in benzene, chloroform, and carbon disulfide. It oxidizes in air and becomes brittle. → Rubber

天然ゴムおよび合成ゴムの加硫前の状態のものをいう。天然ゴムの生ゴムは，工業的にはラテックスを酢酸で凝固させたもので，これを燻煙(くんえん)処理した褐色のスモークドシート，直接乾燥した淡黄色のペールクレープがある。生ゴムは水に不溶で，長く浸漬(しんせき)すると約25％吸水して膨潤。ベンゼン，クロロホルム，二硫化炭素に可溶。空気中では酸化されてもろくなる。→ゴム
