Prado Museum - Prado Museum (English name) Museo del Prado

Located in Madrid, the capital of Spain, this is one of the world's largest national art museums. It was established in 1819 as the Royal Museum of Fine Arts by order of King Ferdinand VII with the aim of preserving and displaying works collected by the Spanish royal family. After the 1868 revolution, it was nationalized and its name was changed to its current one. This comes from the fact that this site was once the Prado (ranch) of San Jeronimo. The building, considered a masterpiece of neoclassicism, was designed by master Juan de Villanueva.

Of the more than 17,000 items in the collection, about 7,600 are paintings, more than half of which are Spanish paintings. It goes without saying that the museum is unrivaled in its collection of Spanish painters, including "The Siege of Breda" and "Infanta Margarita" by Velázquez, who was the chief court painter, and two "Maja" paintings by Goya, as well as El Greco, who was born in Greece, and Ribera, Zurbarán, and Murillo, who supported the Golden Age of Spanish painting. However, another feature of this museum is that it has a large number of masterpieces of Flemish and Italian painting, reflecting the tastes and influence of the Spanish royal family. The former includes "The Descent from the Cross," considered to be Rogier van der Weyden's masterpiece, Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights," and 85 works by Rubens. The latter's collection of Venetian works is said to be one of the best in the world, with 36 works by Titian, including "Danae," and 25 by Tintoretto, including "The Finding of the Baby Moses."
