Plastocyanin

Japanese: プラストシアニン

A copper protein found in many plants, from lower algae to higher angiosperms. It is found in photosynthetic plants that produce oxygen, but is not present in photosynthetic bacteria. It is present in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplasts and plays a role in electron transport in the photosynthetic system. It has a molecular weight of over 10,000, and some form dimers. It contains one copper atom per monomer. The complete amino acid sequence has been determined for many species, and in the case of poplar, the tertiary structure has also been determined.
