…Frankincense and myrrh are lumps of fragrant, rubbery resin secreted from cuts in the primary tree, while agarwood is a resin deposit and condensation in the wood of a small part of the primary tree's trunk that is rarely found in dense forests. The primary tree of agarwood grows on several species of evergreen trees of the genus Aquilaria and others that are rarely found in dense forests in the Assam region of the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra River in northeastern India, the Deccan Plateau in the south, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, southern China, and Hainan Island. The trunk and branches of the primary tree have no smell, but when a small part of the primary tree is subjected to some kind of stimulation due to external injury or other reasons (such as the primary tree falling naturally and being buried in the soil), the resin deposit and condensation occurs only in that part. …
