Also, the person who performs this song and dance. Since the early Kamakura period, those who entered the Imperial Court were called Senzu Manzai , and during the Azuchi-Toyotomi and Tokugawa periods, they were simply called Manzai . During the Edo period, those who came to Kanto were called Mikawa Manzai because they came from Mikawa Province, and those who came to Kyoto were called Yamato Manzai because they came from Yamato Province. At first, they wore folded eboshi hats and plain robes, but later they wore kazaori eboshi hats and hitatare with large crests , and they danced around singing New Year's greetings while beating waist drums .
