Ptolemy [I] - Ptolemy
King of Egypt (reigned 317-283 BC). Honorific title: Soter (Liberator, Savior). Founder of the Ptolemaic Kingdom. A subordinate of Alexander the Great, he secured Egypt and Libya after Alexander's death, and advanced into the Aegean Sea and Asia Minor. He made Alexandria his capital, built the Temple of Serapis, the Library, and the Mouseion, and pursued a pro-Greek policy.
