...V. Griffour, the leader of the revolutionary faction who had been Secretary General of the Confederation since 1901, retired in 1908, and L. Jouhaux, who took over from him in 1909, made it clear that he would cooperate with the war effort when World War I broke out in 1914, which led to the decline of syndicalism. After the war, the old revolutionaries split into various tendencies, such as the majority faction led by Jouhaux, who sought to improve working conditions in exchange for cooperation with the state, G. Monmousseau, who pursued revolution by joining the Communist Party, and P. Monnat, who was revolutionary-minded but refused to be subordinate to political parties, and each of these factions formed their own central organizations.

Since the early 20th century, syndicalism has been introduced outside of France, encouraging the establishment of similar movements.
