A hilly mountain in Shizuoka City. It is 307 meters above sea level. It is also called "Udosan." The mountain is made up of the sand and gravel layers of the Abe River and marine mud layers that were deposited in the Pleistocene (Pleistocene) Epoch, and was formed by a dome-shaped uplift movement. Facing Suruga Bay to the south and Shimizu Port to the east, it has steep sea cliffs, but the north and west sides have wide flat areas that form a plateau where tea plantations are distributed. The eastern slope is used for cultivating mandarin oranges, and the area from the bottom of the sea cliffs to the beach in the south is used for cultivating strawberries. The flat area near the summit is called Nihon-daira, and the view of Mt. Fuji is magnificent. Toshogu Shrine on Mount Kuno, located south of the summit, is a famous tourist destination, along with the Toro ruins and Miho no Matsubara. Nihon-daira Zoo is located on the western foot of the mountain. [Kitagawa Mitsuo] [Reference item] |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
