Rudolf Wissel
1869‐1962
German politician and Social Democrat. He started out as a machine assembler, but became involved in the labor movement under the Anti-Socialist Laws, and served as a Free Trade Union leader from 1908 to 1918. He was in charge of social policy in the People's Commissars government during the revolutionary period from 1918 to 1919. As Minister of Economics in 1919, he advocated a communal economy, but was not accepted and he resigned. From then until 1933, he served as a member of the Reichstag, a leader of the German Trade Union Confederation (1919-23), and Minister of Economics (1928-30). After World War II, he participated in the reconstruction of the West German labor union. He was self-educated, and wrote books on handicrafts.

ドイツの政治家,社会民主党員。機械組立職人から社会主義鎮圧法下の労働運動に身を投じ,1908‐18年,自由労働組合幹部。革命期の18‐19年の人民委員会政府で社会政策を担当。19年経済相として共同経済を唱えるも,いれられず辞任。以後33年まで国会議員,ドイツ労働総同盟幹部(1919‐23),経済大臣(1928‐30)を歴任。第2次大戦後は西ドイツ労働組合の再建に参画。独学の人で手工業に関する著作がある。
