Koto River

A river that flows north through central Kagawa Prefecture. In ancient times it was called "Kotogawa". The upper reaches are also called Naibagawa. It originates near Mount Ryuo (1,060 meters), the highest peak of the Sanuki Mountains, flows north and empties into the Seto Inland Sea in the western Takamatsu Plain. It is 33 kilometers long and has a drainage area of ​​115 square kilometers. In the upper reaches, a multipurpose dam, Uchibaike Pond, was built in 1953 (Showa 28). It is said that the river's current course was formed during the Edo period when a tributary (branch) that flowed down through the current Takamatsu city area was closed off with a levee and abandoned as a river.

香川県中央部を北流する川。古くは「ことうがわ」といわれた。上流部は内場川(ないばがわ)ともよばれる。讃岐(さぬき)山脈の最高峰竜王山（1060メートル）付近に水源を発し、北流して高松平野西部で瀬戸内海に注ぐ。延長は33キロメートル、流域面積115平方キロメートル。上流部には多目的ダム内場池が1953年（昭和28）に建設された。江戸時代に現在の高松市街地を流下する派川（分流）を堤防で締め切り廃川とすることで、河道は現在のようになったといわれる。
