Myoclonus - Myoclonus
[What kind of disease is it?]
It is a disease in which muscles twitch suddenly and violently, like lightning.
Symptoms may affect a part of a limb, the head, or the whole body.
It can be triggered by a stimulus, such as sound or light.
[Cause]
It is often caused by lesions in the cerebrum, brain stem, or spinal cord, so if the symptoms mentioned above are observed, it is essential to examine these areas.
It may be caused by brain damage associated with drug use or liver or kidney disease, or it may occur after gas poisoning or choking.
There are cases where the cause cannot be identified even after various investigations.
[Treatment]
This involves treating the underlying condition, and sometimes taking the anticonvulsant clonazepam is effective.
