Patani Kingdom

Japanese: パタニ王国 - パタニおうこく

A kingdom that existed from the late 14th century to 1785, centered on Patani (Pattani) in Thailand, on the east coast of the south-central Malay Peninsula. This area has long been important as a transit point on the international transportation route between India and China, but it is believed that the Patani Kingdom was established when the influence of the Ayutthaya Dynasty of Thailand, which was established in 1351, expanded into the Malay Peninsula. Islam was introduced to the kingdom at almost the same time, and it became one of the oldest Islamic states on the Malay Peninsula.

14世紀後半から1785年までマレー半島中南部の東岸，現在のタイのパタニPatani(Pattani)を中心として存在した王国。この地域は古くからインド方面と中国方面とのあいだの国際交通路の中継地点として重要であったが，パタニ王国が成立したのは，1351年に成立したタイのアユタヤ朝の勢力がマレー半島に伸張したためであると考えられる。王国の成立とほぼ同時にイスラムが伝えられた結果，マレー半島で最も古いイスラム国家の一つとなった。
