After the execution of the Bohemian religious reformer Hus (1415), his followers (Hussites) started a rebellion in 1419 in protest against the oppression of the Roman Church and Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund. The Czech national movement against Catholic German rule also played a role. The crusades organized by the emperor at the command of the Pope were repeatedly defeated by the Hussite army. The Hussites were divided into the radical Taborites and the moderate Utraquists, who were centered around the city nobles, but the Council of Basel in 1433 moved to compromise with the moderates, causing the Hussites to split, and in 1436 the claims of the moderates were approved, bringing the rebellion to an end.

ボヘミアの宗教改革者フスの処刑（1415年）後，1419年その信奉者（フシーテン）がローマ教会や神聖ローマ皇帝ジギスムントの弾圧に抗議して起こした反乱。カトリック・ドイツ的な支配に抗するチェコ人の民族運動も関わっている。教皇の命で皇帝が組織した十字軍はフス派軍に敗北しつづけた。フス派には急進的なタボル派と都市貴族らを中心とする穏健なウトラキスト派があったが，1433年バーゼル公会議は穏健派に妥協する方向に動き，フス派は分裂，1436年穏健派の主張が承認され，終結した。
