Indanthrone - Indanthrone (English spelling)

In 1901, René Bohn (1862-1922) of BASF, Germany, synthesized the first anthraquinone vat dye while researching indigo dyes with an anthraquinone nucleus. Its chemical structure is completely different from that of the indigo type, and it has a 1,4-diazine ring. It was sold commercially under the name Indanthrene Blue RSN. It was a dye with unprecedented fastness. Since the synthesis of this dye, many excellent vat dyes have been produced, and its significance in the dye industry is enormous. Later, the name indanthrene was given to fast, high-quality vat dyes, so Indanthrene Blue RSN is often referred to as indanthrone. It is still widely used today, but its range of use is limited due to its high unit price. It is also used as a blue pigment.

1901年にドイツのBASF社のボーンRené Bohn（1862―1922）が、アントラキノン核をもつインジゴ系染料を研究中に合成した、最初のアントラキノン系のバット染料。化学構造はインジゴ型とはまったく異なり、1,4-ジアジン環をもつ。インダンスレンブルーRSNの商品名で市販された。これは従来に類例をみないほどの堅牢(けんろう)な染料であった。この染料の合成以後、多くの優れたバット染料がつくられるようになり、染料工業上に果たした意義はきわめて大きい。のちに堅牢で高級なバット染料にインダンスレンindanthreneの名が与えられるようになったので、インダンスレンブルーRSNをさすときにはインダントロンということが多い。今日も多く使用されているが、単価が高いため使用範囲は限られている。青色顔料としての利用もある。
