Gentlemen's directory, list of notables. The first publication to bear this name was launched in 1849 by A. & C. Black in England, and usually lists the names, addresses, careers, occupations, hobbies, family relationships, etc. of people of high social standing. In Japan, the oldest is the first edition of the Nihon Shinshiroku (Japanese Gentlemen's Directory) (Kojunsha) published in 1889 (Meiji 22), followed by the Jinji Koshinroku (Jinji Koshinsho) published in 1903. 紳士録，名士録。この名称を冠した出版物は，1849年イギリスのA.＆ C.ブラック社から創刊されたものが最初で，社会的地位のある人々の氏名，住所，経歴，職業，趣味，家族関係などについて記載するのが普通。日本では，1889年(明治22)の《日本紳士録》第1版(交詢社)が最も古く，1903年の《人事興信録》(人事興信所)がそれに次ぐ。各業界，分野に限った紳士録も出ており，一般に年刊が多い。【紀田順一郎】
