A women's magazine launched by Kodansha in October 1920. It has built up a reputation as a practical magazine for daily life, and to this day stands alongside Shufu no Tomo as one of the leading magazines for housewives in Japan. From the Taisho to Showa periods, it also flourished as a publication for popular novels by Kikuchi Kan, Kume Masao, Sato Koroku, Yoshiya Nobuko and others. It was suspended for a time around the time of Japan's defeat in 1945, but soon returned to normal. After that, it changed its content and format in response to trends in the women's magazine industry as a whole, and maintained a stable readership, but ceased publication in March 1988.
