The scroll design of the capital of a column is thought to have originated from the lily-shaped decoration of Egyptian architecture, and through the Middle East, a double scroll (called Aeolic capital) that is close to the refined and perfected form of the Greek Classical period took root on the coast of Asia Minor in the 7th to 6th centuries BC. Usually, two scrolls are combined on the left and right, but in some cases, four scrolls are attached to the four directions on corner columns. …
