The phenomenon in which energetic particles strike a solid surface and electrons are emitted from the solid surface by acquiring energy from the particles is called secondary electron emission. In a broader sense, it refers to the phenomenon in which electrons fly out of the surface of a material due to the impact of energetic ions or electrons, but in a narrower sense, it refers to the case in which it is caused by incident electrons (called primary electrons). When primary electrons strike a solid, some are reflected, but some enter the solid and impart energy to some of the electrons there, which then impart energy to other electrons, and the process is repeated. …
