Fujiwara no Kiyohira - Fujiwara no Kiyohira

A military commander in the Tohoku region at the end of the ancient period. His father, Tsunekiyo, was the son-in-law of Abe no Yoritoki and fought bravely as the leader of the Abe clan during the Battle of Zenkunen, but was defeated and killed. Kiyohira was born during this war, and after the war, he was raised by his mother's second husband, Kiyohara Takesada of Dewa. An internal feud within the Kiyohara clan led to the Gosannen War, and when Mutsu no Kami Minamoto no Yoshiie intervened, Kiyohira submitted to Yoshiie, fought against the Kiyohara clan, and defeated them, becoming the last unifier of the Tohoku region. While maintaining close ties with the regents, he established control over the entire Tohoku region in Hiraizumi, marking the beginning of the Hiraizumi government that lasted for a century. At the same time, he founded Chusonji Temple, and created a culture of "all gold," which blossomed in Tohoku and represented the culture of the Fujiwara period, and passed it on to three generations. He died on July 16th, the 3rd year of the Daiji era.

古代末期東北の武将。父経清(つねきよ)は安倍頼時(あべのよりとき)の婿として、前九年の役には安倍氏の指導者として奮戦し、敗れて殺された。清衡はこの戦乱中に生まれ、戦後、母の再嫁先たる出羽(でわ)清原武貞(たけさだ)のもとに養われた。清原氏のもとで一族の内訌(ないこう)から後三年の役が起こり、陸奥守(むつのかみ)源義家(よしいえ)がこれに介入すると、清衡は義家に降(くだ)り、清原氏と戦ってこれを滅ぼし、東北の最後の統一者となった。摂関家とも密接な関係を保ちながら、平泉(ひらいずみ)に東北全土にわたる支配を確立、1世紀にわたる平泉政権の端緒を開いた。同時に中尊寺を創建、「皆金色(かいこんじき)」の文化を興し、東北に藤原時代を代表する文化の花を開き、3代に伝えた。大治(だいじ)3年7月16日死す。
