...These include pastoral romantic comedies such as The Spanish Gypsy (premiered in 1623; the following year of premiere), a series of social satire comedies such as The Law of Making an Old Man a Duck (c. 1605), several problematic tragedies such as The Chaste Maid of Cheapside (1611), political satire such as The Chess Game (1624), which depicts the conflict between England and Spain through the game of chess, and grim tragedies such as The Woman, Beware of Woman (1625?) and The Changeling (1622), which trace the way inexperienced women fall into evil through temptation and impulse. The dry satire and alienating technique seen throughout these works make it difficult to identify his literary characteristics, and there is constant disagreement over the identification of the authors of works that are considered to be his.
