...Regarding the relationship between the Synoptic Gospels, the hypothesis (the "two-source theory") is that the oldest Gospel, the Gospel of Mark, and another source (a collection of Jesus' words) that is now lost, were the sources for the writers of the other two Gospels. After the middle of the 2nd century, under the influence of Gnosticism to a greater or lesser extent, many apocryphal Gospels were produced. All of them are based on the canonical Gospels, and while they add various unique traditions, they are speculative in content, and many of them do not fit the definition of "Gospel" given at the beginning, and their historical value regarding Jesus of Nazareth is small. ...
