Zwinger is a late Baroque palace in the old town of Dresden, the capital of the state of Saxony in eastern Germany. It was built in 1732 by order of Elector Friedrich August I of Saxony, and designed by architect Matthaus Pöppelmann. Today, the palace is home to a variety of art galleries and museums, and is known as one of the country's leading treasure troves of cultural heritage.
