Born in October 1851. Second son of Iba Gunbei and younger brother of Iba Hachiro. Taught Shinkage-ryu swordsmanship at a private school, and served as principal of Tokyo Agricultural College and president of the Japan Savings Bank. In 1901, he participated in the founding of the Tokyo City Education Association, but was so outraged by the words and actions of its chairman, Hoshi Toru, that he stabbed him to death five days after the association was formed. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and died of an illness in prison in September 1903. He was 53 years old. Born in Edo.
