Chibu [village] - Chibu

Japanese: 知夫[村] - ちぶ

Located in Oki District, Shimane Prefecture, at the southernmost tip of the Oki Islands, Dozen, Chiburi Island is a village consisting of Chiburi Island and the surrounding small uninhabited islands. Population 802 (1995). Chiburi Island is a chain of steep mountains, with the highest point being Akahage Mountain at 325m above sea level, which approaches the coastline. The coastline has many inlets and outlets, and cliffs formed by wind and sea erosion continue. The people are semi-agricultural and semi-fishing, and there are many migrant workers. Makihata, a farming method that was characteristic of Oki in the early modern period, has rapidly declined due to a decrease in dependence on agriculture and an increase in people leaving villages and migrant workers.

島根県隠岐郡，隠岐諸島島前（どうぜん）の最南端，知夫里（ちぶり）島と周辺の小さな無人島からなる村。人口802(1995)。知夫里島は標高325mのアカハゲ(赤禿)山を最高地点とする急峻な山が連なって海岸線まで迫り，海岸線は出入りが多く，風海食によって形成された断崖が続いている。半農半漁で，出稼者が多い。近世に隠岐の特徴的な農法であった牧畑（まきはた）は農業への依存度の減少と離村や出稼ぎの増加によって急激に衰退した。
