Also known as Mizokakushi. A perennial plant of the Campanulaceae family. It is found throughout Japan and in eastern and southern Asia, growing in clusters on rice field ridges and in wetlands. The stem branches and crawls along the ground, is about 15 cm tall, and has narrow, oblong leaves that grow alternately. From July to October, white flowers with a reddish purple tinge bloom on long stalks extending from the leaf axils.
