This is one of the delusional experiences that mainly occurs in acutely developing schizophrenia. At first, everything seems eerie and meaningful, but then the patient experiences strong anxiety and despair as the world is destroyed, with thoughts of "a terrible disaster is imminent," "an unprecedented catastrophe is coming," and "a world war is breaking out." This experience also occurs in epileptic psychosis and depression accompanied by delusions of nothingness. [Omiyama Minoru]
