A city facing Tosa Bay in eastern Kochi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. The main urban area developed on the sand dunes on the right bank of the Aki River estuary, and National Route 55 runs through it. The coastal plains are the center of the Aki horticultural region, where forced cultivation of cucumbers, peppers, eggplants, and other crops is popular, and the city is shipped to the Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe regions. The upper reaches of the Ioki River in the north are national forest areas that produce an abundance of timber. Uchinohara ware is a specialty of the city. 317.21 km2 . Population: 19,547 (2010).
