Tilting block - Nearby

This refers to a terrain in which one side of a fault mountain is a steeply sloping fault scarp (front side) and the other side is a gently sloping surface (back side). A depression called a fault angle basin may occur between the back side of a tilted block and the adjacent fault scarp. Tilted blocks are thought to be terrains that occur when fault mountains undergo unequal rotational movement. The Sierra Nevada Mountains in the western United States and Mount Byobu (Fukuoka Prefecture) in Japan are known as examples of tilted blocks.

断層山地の一方側が急傾斜の断層崖(だんそうがい)（前面）からなり、他の側が緩傾斜面（背面）からなる地形をいう。傾動地塊の背面と隣接している断層崖の間には、断層角盆地とよばれる凹地が生ずる場合がある。傾動地塊は、断層山地が不等回転運動を受けた場合に生ずる地形であると考えられている。アメリカ合衆国西部にあるシエラ・ネバダ山脈や、日本の屏風(びょうぶ)山（福岡県）などは、傾動地塊の実例として知られている。
