Völkischer Beobachter (English spelling)

Völkischer Beobachter (English spelling)
The central organ of the German Nazis. Its name means "observer of the nation." Its predecessor was the Münchner Beobachter, which was founded in Munich in 1887. It changed its title to the above in 1918, and was purchased by Hitler in 1920, making it the organ of the Nazis. It was initially published twice a week, but became a daily publication in February 1923. However, after the failure of the Munich Putsch in November of that year, it was banned along with the party. However, it was republished in 1925, and although it was initially published only in Munich, it was also published in Berlin in 1930 and in Vienna in 1938 after the annexation of Austria, and it grew with the development of the Nazis. At its peak in 1944, it reached 1.7 million copies, but disappeared with the collapse of the Nazis in 1945.
