Buenaventura (English spelling)

A city in the western part of the state of Valle del Cauca in western Colombia. It is a port city on the Pacific coast, about 80 km northwest of the state capital Cali, on the small island of Cascajal in Buenaventura Bay. Founded in 1540. Located in a swampy area with high temperatures and heavy rainfall, and with poor transportation access, it did not develop much for a long time, but in the 1930s, roads connecting it to the inland areas were improved, and cargo transported by road increased, leading to rapid development, modernization of port facilities, and construction of an airport. Currently, it is the main port on the country's Pacific coast, and mainly ships agricultural products such as coffee, sugar, and cotton from the fertile Cauca Valley, as well as most of the gold and platinum from the state of Choco in the north. It is also a fishing port, and exports frozen shrimp. It is connected to inland cities by rail and road via Cali, the center of the Cauca Valley. Population: 174,397 (1985).

コロンビア西部，バイェデルカウカ州西部の都市。州都カリの北西約 80km，太平洋岸の港湾都市で，ブエナベントゥラ湾内の小島カスカハル島にある。 1540年建設。高温多雨の低湿地帯にあり，交通の便も悪かったため，長い間あまり発展しなかったが，1930年代に内陸部と結ぶ道路が改良され，道路輸送による貨物が増加してから急速に発展，港湾施設が近代化され，空港も建設された。現在同国の太平洋岸の主要港で，おもに肥沃なカウカ谷に産するコーヒー，砂糖，綿花などの農産物と，北のチョコ州に産する金，白金の大部分を積出す。漁港でもあり，冷凍エビが輸出される。カウカ谷の中心地カリを経て内陸部諸都市と鉄道，道路で連絡。人口 17万 4397 (1985) 。
